How air-activated hand warmers work
Air-activated warmers produce heat when the contents are exposed to air. There are no batteries to charge and nothing to refill. Open the package, expose the warmer to air and let it warm up, then put it in a glove, pocket or boot. For exact directions, follow the instructions printed on the package.
What the 36 pair box is good for
- Outdoor sports: skiing, hiking, hunting and sports events are the uses the listing names.
- Daily winter use: a pair in your coat pockets for the commute or school pickup.
- Travel: the warmers are listed as TSA-approved, so they can go in your bag.
- Stocking up: 36 pairs lasts a household through a winter, or covers a family, a team or a group of coworkers.
Is the 36 pair box worth it?
If you only need a few pairs, a small pack may be enough. The box makes sense when you will use warmers regularly or share them, because the cost per pair drops to about $0.68. Each warmer is listed as lasting up to 8 hours, so one pair covers most of a day outdoors.
Tips
- Keep unused warmers in their sealed packaging until you need them.
- Read and follow the package directions and warnings.
- Do not apply warmers directly to bare skin unless the package says it is safe.
